The United States has announced a new visa bond requirement for Nigerians applying for B1/B2 business and tourist visas. From January 21, 2026, eligible applicants may be required to deposit $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000, refundable upon timely departure and full compliance with visa conditions.

Tinubu Appoints Gbemisola Odusote as First Female Director-General of Nigerian Law School


President Bola Tinubu has approved Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as Director‑General of the Nigerian Law School, effective January 10, 2026, for four years. She becomes the first woman to head the institution since its 1962 establishment. Odusote will lead academic and administrative affairs nationwide and liaise with key legal bodies.


Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for New Boards of Petroleum Regulatory Agencies

President Bola Tinubu has requested Senate confirmation of 21 nominees to the boards of Nigeria’s petroleum regulators, NUPRC and NMDPRA. The nominees include former senator Magnus Abe and energy expert Adegbite Adeniji, aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight, continuity, and reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act to stabilize and grow the oil and gas sector.

A 17-year-old has been charged with the murder of 23-year-old Nigerian John Onetufo, who was fatally stabbed in Lewisham, south London, on New Year’s Eve. Police continue investigating the circumstances, with two other suspects released on bail. Authorities urge public assistance as the inquiry progresses to ensure justice for the victim.
