The Lagos State chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced a statewide electronic membership registration exercise, describing it as a compulsory and strategic step to reinforce internal organisation, transparency and democratic practice within the party.

The party said the digital registration, which began over the weekend, will remain open until the end of January, giving current members and intending entrants adequate time to enrol and validate their details on the party’s central database.

According to the Lagos APC, the initiative is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at modernising party administration and aligning its internal processes with global democratic standards. The party stressed that credible political organisation depends heavily on accurate and verifiable membership records.

Officials noted that the new system is designed to address long-standing challenges such as duplicate entries, impersonation and unverifiable membership, which have often weakened cohesion and accountability within political parties.

By migrating to a digital register, the APC said all members would be properly identified and formally recognised, ensuring clarity in participation rights and responsibilities across party structures

The party also explained that the exercise creates a level playing field for both existing and new members, reducing informal gatekeeping and promoting fairness in internal engagement and decision-making.

Beyond administration, the APC said the e-registration would provide a reliable foundation for future congresses, primaries and leadership selection processes, noting that credible internal elections are impossible without a transparent and dependable membership database.

The party further highlighted the role of technology in attracting youths, professionals and first-time political participants, arguing that digital systems improve accessibility, efficiency and grassroots mobilisation.

Urging members to take the exercise seriously, the Lagos APC described the registration as a collective responsibility essential to strengthening the party’s electoral preparedness, governance capacity and long-term sustainability.
