President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic milestone in the institution’s leadership.

The appointment takes effect from January 10, 2026, and is for a single four-year term. With this development, Dr. Odusote becomes the first woman to head the Nigerian Law School since it was established in 1962

Until her appointment, Odusote served as Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, roles in which she oversaw academic coordination and administrative operations within one of the institution’s busiest campuses.

As Director-General, she will provide overall academic and administrative leadership for the Nigerian Law School, shaping policy direction and ensuring consistent standards across all campuses nationwide.

Her responsibilities will also include serving as the principal link between the Law School and key legal institutions, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Odusote will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure as Director-General ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

A seasoned legal scholar, Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later obtained a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, with a focus on company and commercial law.

She holds a doctorate in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with academic interests spanning public law and the administration of justice. She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 and has since held several leadership positions, including Head of Department, Director of Academics, and Campus Head.

Over the years, she has contributed extensively to legal scholarship through publications in reputable journals and presentations at local and international conferences. She has also served on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association, reinforcing her longstanding influence within Nigeria’s legal education system.
