 Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chair/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), met with the Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller-General to strengthen support for Nigerians abroad. Talks focused on simplifying customs clearance for personal effects and diaspora cargo, reducing delays, and enhancing diaspora investments. The agencies also discussed joint strategies to ease importation of donated equipment ahead of the 2026 Diaspora Day medical outreach, reaffirming commitment to collaboration and improved service delivery.




Kenya Government Rolls Out Integrated Diaspora System on eCitizen Platform

 The Kenyan government has launched the Diaspora Integrated Information Management System (DIIMS) on the eCitizen portal, centralising key services for Kenyans abroad. The platform now supports diaspora registration, association registration, missing persons/death reports, distress assistance requests, and crisis mapping. A 24-hour response centre will handle emergencies like medical crises and lost documents. The initiative aims to streamline engagement, improve responsiveness and support safer labour migration through initiatives such as the Kazi Majuu programme.


British-Nigerian Actor Damson Idris Named Formula 1 Global Brand Ambassador

 British-Nigerian actor Damson Idris has been appointed Global Brand Ambassador for Formula 1 ahead of the 2026 season. The role follows his acclaimed performance in F1: The Movie, where he starred as rookie driver Joshua Pearce. Formula 1 President Stefano Domenicali praised Idris’s cultural influence and passion for the sport. In his ambassadorial role, Idris will attend races worldwide, create promotional content and help expand F1’s reach to new and younger audiences globally.





Sade Adu Secures Second Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nomination

 Nigerian-British music legend Sade Adu has earned her second nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the 2026 list of contenders. The nomination recognises artists who’ve significantly influenced global music, requiring at least 25 years since their first commercial release. Born Helen Folasade Adu, she rose to fame in the 1980s with her soul/jazz/R&B fusion. The nomination highlights her four-decade career, Grammy wins and lasting impact, with final inductees to be announced later in the year.




German Embassy Hosts Forum on Strategies to Tackle Nigeria’s Insecurity

 The Embassy of Germany in Nigeria convened security officials, diplomats and experts at a forum themed “Kinetics and Non-kinetics – How to Make Nigeria Safe.” German Ambassador Annett Günther highlighted the need for coordinated military and non-military strategies. Panel discussions covered insurgency, banditry, organised crime and governance gaps. Participants underscored collaborative roles for military, police, communities and international partners. Germany reaffirmed its commitment to security cooperation, focusing on disarmament, reintegration, and preventive initiatives.



 


Ken Nwadiogbu Wins 2026 Young Generation Art Award in Berlin

 Nigerian-born, London-based artist Ken Nwadiogbu has won the 2026 Young Generation Art Award in Berlin. Selected from nearly 400 applicants, he was recognised for his innovative “Contemporealism” style that blends hyperrealism with social commentary. Presented by the Degussa CEO and Monopol magazine, the award includes €10,000, a solo exhibition at Frieze London 2026, and a year-long traveling showcase. Nwadiogbu’s striking portraits celebrating Black identity have been exhibited at major institutions, solidifying his international prominence.





NYCN Diaspora Names Austin Akpehe Ambassador to China

 The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Diaspora has appointed former footballer and entrepreneur Austin Akpehe as Ambassador to China effective February 24, 2026. The role aims to deepen youth representation and strengthen ties between Nigerian youths and Chinese institutions. Akpehe will promote youth empowerment, leadership development and partnership building across economic and diplomatic sectors.
