Nigerian-born, London-based artist Ken Nwadiogbu has emerged as the winner of the 2026 Young Generation Art Award, a distinguished accolade recognizing emerging talent in contemporary art. The award was presented on 19 February at Berlin’s Hotel de Rome by Degussa CEO Christian Rauch.

Selected from nearly 400 applicants, Nwadiogbu stood out for his innovative artistic approach and compelling visual narratives. The award, organized by Degussa in collaboration with Monopol magazine, aims to support artists at the early stages of their careers.

As part of the prize, Nwadiogbu receives €10,000 in cash, a solo exhibition at Frieze London 2026, and a one-year traveling exhibition across multiple international venues, offering significant exposure on the global art stage.

Nwadiogbu is the creator of the “Contemporealism” movement, a style that merges hyperrealism with contemporary social commentary. His work often explores issues of identity, representation, and the human experience through striking, thought-provoking visuals.

His signature bright yellow portraits, which celebrate the Black community, have become widely recognized and critically acclaimed. These works have been displayed at major institutions including the Royal Academy of Arts, Somerset House, Hauser & Wirth, and the Saatchi Gallery.

A self-taught artist initially planning to study civil engineering, Nwadiogbu later graduated from both the University of Lagos and the Royal College of Art. His journey underscores a commitment to authentic storytelling and the power of art to challenge societal norms.

The Young Generation Art Award solidifies Nwadiogbu’s position as one of the most promising contemporary artists today, offering him a platform to expand his artistic reach internationally while continuing to inspire and provoke meaningful conversation through his work.
