A Yoruba diaspora organisation has welcomed the growing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, describing it as a positive step toward tackling the country’s security challenges and protecting civilians.

Operating under the banner of the Yoruba World Congress Worldwide (YWC), the group commended the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for strengthening intelligence sharing and operational collaboration with U.S. authorities.

In a statement issued by its leadership, YWC said recent joint efforts had yielded encouraging outcomes, citing reported security operations against extremist elements in parts of the North-West as evidence that coordinated international support can improve internal security.

The organisation also acknowledged the role of the United States in supporting Nigeria’s security objectives, noting that sustained cooperation could help stabilise affected regions and curb cross-border threats.

While expressing optimism, YWC urged the Federal Government to maintain momentum and extend enhanced security measures to vulnerable areas, particularly communities in Kogi, Kwara and Edo states.

It drew attention to concerns raised by residents of Okun communities in Kogi State, who have repeatedly called for improved protection.

The group further appealed for increased security presence along major transport routes in the region, especially sections described by commuters as unsafe, stressing that infrastructure safety is critical to economic activity and public confidence.

Beyond immediate security operations, YWC called for broader reforms, including accountability for individuals linked to criminal networks, improved welfare for displaced persons, and faster legislative action on measures such as state policing to strengthen local security frameworks.

It concluded by urging authorities to adopt a more proactive security posture nationwide, emphasising that preventing attacks and restoring normalcy in affected communities should remain a top priority for all levels of government.
