A court in the United Kingdom has handed a 17-year prison sentence to a 24-year-old Nigerian migrant, Gift Oladele, after he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault.

The judgment was delivered at Mold Crown Court, where the defendant had earlier been convicted in March over an attack that occurred in September 2025 in Wrexham, Wales.

During proceedings, prosecutors explained that the incident began when the victim, a 19-year-old woman, encountered the defendant outside a takeaway outlet in the city centre. He reportedly approached her in a friendly manner and offered to accompany her home.

However, the situation turned violent when he diverted her into a secluded area. There, the court heard, he forcefully restrained her and carried out the assault in nearby woodland.

Evidence presented showed that the victim was left terrified and vulnerable during the incident. She later recounted that she complied out of fear for her life and safety as the attack unfolded.

Following the assault, the attacker allegedly issued threats in an attempt to silence her, warning of further harm and suggesting he could expose her publicly if she reported the crime.

Despite the intimidation, the victim returned home and informed her parents, who promptly contacted the police. The suspect was arrested the following day in Wrexham, where officers also recovered evidence linked to the case.

In sentencing, the judge described the offence as extremely grave and characterised the convict as a dangerous individual, noting that he had a history of similar allegations and posed a continued threat to the public.
