A 27-year-old man, Daniel Odubanjo, has been sentenced to six years in prison in the United Kingdom following a series of assaults on passengers aboard a train in Essex.
The conviction relates to incidents that occurred on November 29, 2024, during a service travelling from Shenfield to Chelmsford. Prosecutors told the court that Odubanjo first targeted a young woman on the train before turning his attention to a teenage girl minutes later.
According to evidence presented, the first victim managed to escape and immediately alerted railway staff upon arriving at Chelmsford, prompting a rapid response from transport police.
Shortly after, Odubanjo was said to have approached a 17-year-old passenger on the same service. His actions drew the attention of other commuters, and a bystander intervened before police arrived.
Officers from the British Transport Police intercepted the train at Hatfield Peverel station, where Odubanjo was arrested at the scene.
He was later found guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court of false imprisonment and two counts of sexual assault. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order restricting his conduct on public transport and ordered him to pay a statutory victim surcharge.
Reacting to the ruling, investigators praised the victims for coming forward and acknowledged the role of passengers who stepped in to prevent further harm, describing the sentence as a strong message about safety on public transport.
