Indian authorities have arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with suspected drug trafficking activities in New Delhi.

The arrests were carried out by police operatives in the Maidan Garhi area of South Delhi following a targeted intelligence-led operation. Law enforcement officials disclosed that the operation was based on credible information received days earlier about an impending drug supply transaction.

According to police sources, the suspects were intercepted late at night while riding a scooter, shortly after arriving at the designated location. Officers, who had been strategically positioned, moved in and apprehended the duo without incident.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of multiple illicit substances. Authorities reported the seizure of over 100 grams of cocaine, alongside smaller quantities of MDMA and methaqualone. The cocaine was classified as a commercial quantity under Indian narcotics laws.

The suspects were identified as Chijioke Wisdom, aged 26, reportedly linked to Lagos, and Chiqozie, 43, said to be from Imo State. Police further indicated that both individuals were residing in India without valid immigration documentation at the time of their arrest.

Investigators have since filed charges under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a stringent law governing drug-related offences in the country.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to uncover the broader network behind the operation, including potential suppliers and collaborators connected to the suspects.

The case highlights continued concerns over transnational drug trafficking networks and the involvement of foreign nationals in narcotics distribution within India.
