The trial of Bellarmine Mugabe, son of the late former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe, was postponed on Thursday after a power outage disrupted court proceedings in South Africa.

The hearing, scheduled to take place at the Alexandra Magistrate's Court, could not continue after the facility was suddenly plunged into darkness, forcing officials to halt the session.

Court authorities subsequently adjourned the matter to March 11, 2026, when proceedings are expected to resume once electricity supply to the court is stable.

Mugabe is standing trial alongside his co-accused, Tobias Matonhdze, over allegations linked to a violent incident that reportedly occurred last month.

According to the charges filed against them, the two men are accused of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice.

Investigators allege that the pair shot and injured an employee at Mugabe’s residence located in the Hyde Park area of Johannesburg during the incident.

Prosecutors also claim that Bellarmine Mugabe violated South Africa’s immigration regulations, adding another charge to the case as the court prepares to reconvene next week.
