A 16-year-old boy is expected to appear before a magistrates’ court in London on Saturday after being formally charged in connection with the killing of Nigerian-British teenager, Eghosa Ogbebor.
The charge was confirmed by the Metropolitan Police Service, which stated that the suspect, whose identity is withheld due to legal protections for minors, faces a murder charge linked to the fatal shooting in south-east London.
Ogbebor, aged 14, was killed on April 2 in the Woolwich area of London after emergency services responded to reports of gunfire. Despite efforts by paramedics at the scene, the teenager was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police said the suspect had initially been arrested days after the incident but was released on bail before being taken into custody again following further investigation. He was officially charged on April 10.
Authorities also confirmed that multiple other individuals previously arrested in connection with the case have either been released on bail or remain under investigation as inquiries continue.
Law enforcement officials described the investigation as ongoing, with detectives still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any additional suspects or roles involved.
The case has drawn attention within the Nigerian diaspora community in the United Kingdom, especially following a series of recent violent incidents involving teenagers.
