The second batch of Lagos State pilgrims for the 2025 holy pilgrimage has departed the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, en route to Jordan and Israel. The departure marks another significant phase in the state’s annual Christian pilgrimage exercise, following the successful airlift of the first batch of 200 pilgrims a day earlier.

Speaking at the airport before departure, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya, urged the pilgrims to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. He emphasised the importance of respecting the laws and customs of their host countries while upholding the values of discipline and integrity throughout the spiritual journey.
Also addressing the pilgrims, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters, Very Revd Bukola Adeleke, encouraged them to show appreciation to the Lagos State Government by maintaining decorum and exemplary conduct. She reminded them that the pilgrimage is not only a spiritual exercise but also an opportunity to represent the state positively on the global stage.
In his remarks, the Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Dr. Okudero Omoniyi, noted that the first batch of pilgrims had set a commendable standard in conduct and participation. He expressed confidence that the second batch would not only sustain but surpass that standard during visits to sacred sites.

The pilgrims are scheduled to visit significant biblical locations including the Sea of Galilee, the River Jordan, and Jerusalem, where they will connect with historic and spiritual landmarks central to the Christian faith. As families and friends bid them farewell, the journey signals another step in Lagos State’s continued support for faith-based initiatives under its broader social and community development programmes.
