Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to remain committed to preserving and strengthening the nation’s democratic institutions. He said this commitment is vital to ensuring continued stability and progress across all sectors.

The governor made the appeal on Friday through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Lanre Bajulaye, at an event where he was honoured as the Nigerian NewsDirect 2025 Man of the Year.
Sanwo-Olu noted that democracy thrives when individuals across different fields continue to uphold values that promote national growth, inspire excellence, and contribute positively to society.
He stressed that the nation’s democratic journey is sustained by collective effort, civic responsibility, and a shared aspiration for a prosperous and united Nigeria.

The governor stated that the honour bestowed on him serves as a reminder of the responsibilities of leadership, public service, and active participation in governance.
“We must keep building a Nigeria where hope is alive, progress is consistent, and democracy stays strong,” he said.
He added that the recognition reflected the importance of integrity, hard work, and accountability across all sectors of the nation’s economy.
Sanwo-Olu commended Nigerian NewsDirect for creating a platform that celebrates excellence and encourages responsible leadership. He dedicated the award to public servants, supportive communities, and young Nigerians who remain optimistic about the country’s future, noting that the achievement “belongs to all of us.”
