The Lagos State House of Assembly has formally received a communication from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu requesting a date to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill, marking the start of preparations for the next fiscal year.

The proposed budget carries an estimated total of ₦4.237 trillion, signalling an ambitious spending plan aimed at consolidating Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s commercial capital.
The official communication, read on the House floor by Clerk Olalekan Onafeko, initiates the legislative process required before the Governor can formally lay out the administration’s financial blueprint for the year.
Governor Sanwo-Olu is expected to highlight key priorities in the 2026 budget, including infrastructural development, social services, security, and initiatives to boost economic growth and investment across the state.

The budget is also expected to build on ongoing projects under the THEMES+ Agenda, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to sustainable urban development, job creation, and improving the welfare of Lagosians.
“Our proposed 2026 budget reflects a clear vision for Lagos. It is ambitious, but realistic, designed to meet the needs of our growing population while investing strategically in critical sectors,” the Governor said.
“We are committed to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in spending. Every naira in this budget is aimed at improving the lives of Lagosians and ensuring that the state continues to thrive economically and socially,” he added.
The House of Assembly is yet to fix a date for the presentation, but the move is widely expected to kick off extensive deliberations and public scrutiny of the administration’s financial plans for the coming year.
