President Tinubu Hails Nigerian-American Star Anosike Over China League Victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Nigerian-American basketball player Ejimofor Anosike for his outstanding performance in the 2026 Chinese National Basketball League, where he led his team to a championship win.
Anosike, who featured prominently for the Hong Kong Bulls, played a decisive role throughout the finals, delivering a performance that secured the title and earned widespread recognition.
The forward capped off an exceptional tournament by claiming several individual honours, including the Finals Most Valuable Player award, Best International Player, and the Slam Dunk Champion title.
In an official statement released in Abuja, the President commended Anosike’s discipline, resilience, and dedication, describing his achievements as a testament to hard work and determination on the global stage.
Tinubu noted that the athlete’s success reflects the increasing global footprint of Nigerian talents in sports, adding that such accomplishments continue to elevate the country’s image internationally.
He also highlighted the importance of investing in youth development and sports infrastructure, stressing that nurturing young talent remains key to sustaining Nigeria’s presence in global competitions.
The President further applauded Anosike for maintaining strong ties to his Nigerian roots, particularly his involvement with the national basketball team, D’Tigers, despite his international career.
Tinubu expressed optimism about the player’s future, stating that Anosike is well-positioned to achieve even greater milestones and continue serving as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across Nigeria and beyond.
