Albanian President Bajram Begaj has called for deeper cooperation between Albania and Egypt while meeting members of the Albanian community living and working in Egypt on Monday.
Speaking in Cairo, Begaj praised the long-standing presence of Albanians in the country, saying the diaspora has historically acted as a cultural and diplomatic bridge between both nations since the 19th century. He referenced influential figures such as Muhamed Ali Pasha and Thimi Mitko, noting their role in shaping both Egypt’s modern development and Albania’s national awakening.
Begaj said Albanians abroad have consistently shown an ability to stay united, support one another, and preserve their language, culture, and traditions. He encouraged younger generations in Egypt to remain connected to their heritage by participating in cultural forums and community organisations.
The president also outlined key areas for closer bilateral cooperation, including trade, education, science, technology, culture, and tourism, stressing that partnerships formed today could yield long-term strategic benefits.
Begaj’s visit comes as Albania continues to expand outreach to its global diaspora, viewing it as a vital asset for investment, diplomacy, and national identity.
