Nairobi is gearing up to host a high-level diaspora investment conference that is expected to draw prominent Pan-African figures, industry leaders, and policy experts from across the continent. The meeting, organised by the Kenya Diaspora Alliance, will spotlight how cooperative models can strengthen diaspora-driven investments and stimulate economic growth.
A central highlight of the conference is the planned unveiling of a new investment blueprint designed to guide diaspora participation in Kenya’s cooperative sector. The framework will outline strategies for mobilising capital, expanding partnerships, and developing policies that promote sustainable, community-driven development.
Organisers say the document, set to be completed during the December convention, will form part of a broader long-term plan to channel diaspora resources into sectors such as housing, agribusiness, fintech, and youth and women empowerment.
The chairperson of the Alliance, Dr. Shem Ochuodho, emphasised that the gathering aims to deliver a practical action plan that strengthens cooperative-led growth. He noted that diaspora remittances, which continue to play a significant role in Kenya’s economy, can achieve far greater impact when aligned with organised cooperative structures like SACCOs and investment clubs.
The conference will run alongside the Kenya Diaspora Homecoming event and will operate under the theme “Cooperative Models for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development.” The theme aligns with the global focus on cooperatives in 2025 and reflects growing recognition of their importance in addressing economic and social challenges.
Delegates will explore how diaspora-backed cooperatives can drive inclusive wealth creation, enhance democratic economic participation, and support the country’s bottom-up growth agenda. Discussions will also examine how global networks and expertise within the diaspora community can be tapped to accelerate Kenya’s development goals.
The event is expected to attract government representatives, private sector leaders, academic institutions, and civil society organisations seeking to collaborate on a unified investment roadmap for the coming year.
