The Obafemi Awolowo Foundation has opened applications for a new leadership fellowship designed to nurture emerging leaders from Africa, the Caribbean, and diaspora communities around the world.

The initiative, known as the Obafemi Awolowo Future Leaders Fellowship, seeks to identify and develop young individuals who demonstrate strong leadership potential and a commitment to public service, innovation, and societal development.

According to the Foundation, the programme is aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge, values, and practical skills required to address contemporary challenges while promoting ethical leadership and community impact.

The fellowship is open to applicants between the ages of 20 and 35 and is expected to attract participants from diverse backgrounds across multiple regions. Organisers say the programme reflects a broader effort to inspire a new generation of leaders guided by integrity, excellence, and service.

The Foundation noted that the fellowship was created to extend the legacy of late Nigerian statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo by investing in future leaders capable of driving positive change in governance, entrepreneurship, education, and social development.

Participants selected for the programme will take part in leadership training, mentorship sessions, collaborative learning activities, and problem-solving exercises focused on real-world issues affecting communities across Africa and the global diaspora.

The inaugural edition is scheduled to begin on October 4, 2026, and will run for eight weeks through virtual sessions held on Saturdays, making it accessible to participants across different countries and time zones.

Applications will be assessed on merit, with candidates required to submit a personal statement and provide references. Interested individuals have until August 31, 2026, to complete their applications through the Foundation's designated platform.
