The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has assisted the voluntary return of 180 Nigerian migrants from Libya, with the group arriving in Lagos on Tuesday evening.
The returnees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport aboard a chartered flight and were received by IOM officials alongside government representatives. The group consisted largely of women and children who had been stranded in Libya after undertaking irregular migration journeys.
Speaking during the reception, IOM officials said many of the returnees had endured difficult conditions while abroad, with a significant number coming from detention facilities in the Libyan city of Benghazi.

According to the agency, the passengers included adult men and women, children, and infants. Two of the returnees were unaccompanied minors who arrived without their parents or guardians.
Upon arrival, the migrants underwent health assessments and received counselling and other immediate support services. IOM noted that eligible returnees would also have access to reintegration programmes designed to help them rebuild their lives through vocational training, psychosocial support, and assistance for small businesses.
The agency said it has continued to work with the Nigerian government and international partners to support migrants returning from challenging circumstances abroad. Over the years, thousands of Nigerians have benefited from the programme, which aims to provide safe return and sustainable reintegration opportunities.
IOM reiterated its commitment to helping vulnerable migrants recover from their experiences and reintegrate successfully into their communities.
