The United States government has identified 110 Nigerians for deportation as part of a broader immigration enforcement operation affecting hundreds of West African nationals.
According to information released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a total of 355 individuals from countries across West Africa are scheduled for removal under an initiative known as the West Africa Operations Watch (WOW) programme.
Nigeria recorded one of the highest numbers on the list, with 110 citizens marked for deportation. Only Liberia had a higher figure, with 94 nationals included in the operation.
Other countries affected include Ghana with 30 individuals, Senegal with 19, Cameroon with 15, The Gambia and Côte d’Ivoire with 14 each, Mauritania with 12, and Cape Verde with 11. Burkina Faso accounted for nine people, while Niger had eight.
The list further showed that six nationals each from Guinea and Togo were included, alongside five Malians. Benin Republic and Guinea-Bissau each had one citizen named in the deportation exercise.
The DHS reportedly made public the identities of the affected individuals as part of the operation, which forms part of ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to enforce immigration regulations and return individuals found to be in violation of residency requirements.
The development means Nigeria is expected to receive the largest number of deportees among the countries affected by the latest U.S. immigration crackdown, highlighting the growing impact of deportation policies on West African migrants living in the United States.
