Nigerian Governance Expert Funmi Ekundayo Becomes President of Global CSIA Body

Funmi Ekundayo, a seasoned governance professional and recognised industry leader, has been appointed President of the Corporate Secretaries International Association, the global body representing governance practitioners across multiple continents. Her elevation places a Nigerian at the forefront of international corporate governance discussions.
Ekundayo, who currently serves as Group Managing Director of STL Capital Group, has built a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades across legal practice, trust services, capital markets, and corporate governance. Her leadership record includes steering strategic reforms that strengthened STL Capital’s trust and fiduciary services footprint in Nigeria.
A graduate of the University of Lagos, with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Law, she also attended Harvard Business School. She is a Fellow and Governing Council member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, where she previously made history as the first female President in its 57-year existence.
Her professional journey includes roles at Bentley, Edu & Co; Sterling Asset Management & Trustees; and United Capital Trustees before rising to executive leadership at STL Trustees and subsequently STL Capital Group. Ekundayo also has a long-standing record of service with several industry bodies, including past presidencies, council memberships, and fellowships in banking, investment, and risk management institutes.
In a statement confirming her new role, STL Capital Group praised her achievement and described it as a milestone for Nigeria’s governance community.
Ekundayo said she aims to strengthen global governance standards, enhance capacity-building across member institutes, and consolidate CSIA’s position as a leading international voice for the profession.
