The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an upward review of standard Nigerian passport fees, a change that will come into effect on September 1, 2025.
In a statement signed on Thursday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the agency explained that the revised fees apply only to passport applications made within Nigeria. Under the new pricing structure:
The 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost N100,000.
The 64-page passport with 10-year validity will now cost N200,000.
The NIS clarified that fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.
According to the statement, the fee adjustment is aimed at sustaining the quality, security features, and production integrity of Nigerian passports while ensuring that they remain accessible and globally acceptable.
The Immigration Service emphasized that the review was necessary to meet rising production costs and to maintain ongoing investments in modernizing passport issuance processes. The NIS is currently deploying technology-driven reforms to reduce processing delays, improve service delivery at passport offices, and eliminate racketeering.
Recent upgrades within the service include the unveiling of improved facilities at passport offices, tighter border security measures, and increased adoption of automated systems to track and verify passport applications.
The agency urged Nigerians to submit applications only through official channels to avoid extortion or fraudulent practices, stressing that the new fees will be strictly enforced starting next month.
