Nigeria-Canada Relations Get Boost as Canada Commends NiDCOM’s Diaspora Conference Success

Nigeria-Canada relations have received a boost following commendation from the Canadian government for the successful organisation of a diaspora conference by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and its NiDEC Planning Committee.
Canada’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Carlos Rojas-Arbulú, praised NiDCOM and the 15-member Planning Committee for organising what he described as an impactful conference during a courtesy visit to NiDCOM Chairperson, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Lagos.
Rojas-Arbulú said the conference provided an important platform for strengthening engagement between Nigeria and Canada while creating opportunities for greater cooperation between stakeholders in both countries.
The Canadian envoy also acknowledged the efforts of NiDCOM and the planning committee in delivering the three-day event, highlighting its positive outcomes and potential to deepen bilateral relations.
The conference brought together senior government officials from Nigeria and Canada, diaspora professionals, investors and other stakeholders to discuss areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for collaboration and development.
In her response, Dabiri-Erewa expressed appreciation for the positive feedback from the Canadian authorities and thanked the Canadian government for its support and partnership.
She said the commendation demonstrated that the conference had achieved its intended purpose and reaffirmed NiDCOM’s determination to build on the gains recorded through continued engagement with relevant stakeholders.
Dabiri-Erewa further stated that the Commission would continue to promote stronger relationships with Nigerians living abroad by creating opportunities for collaboration, investment and participation in Nigeria’s development.
The NiDCOM Chairperson expressed optimism that the partnership between Nigeria and Canada would continue to expand, particularly through increased diaspora engagement and initiatives capable of delivering mutual benefits to both countries.
The conference was held across three cities in Canada over three days, providing a platform for government representatives, professionals, investors and other participants to examine ways of strengthening Nigeria-Canada cooperation and harnessing the contributions of the Nigerian diaspora to national development.
