83 Nigerians Return Home from South Africa

Another 83 Nigerian nationals have returned home from South Africa, arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

The returnees departed O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 3:10 p.m. aboard South African Airways Flight SAA 0060 and arrived in Lagos at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The group comprised 58 adults, 23 children and two infants. One official from the Nigerian Consulate accompanied the returnees during the journey.
The repatriation was coordinated by the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg and the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, working with relevant South African authorities to facilitate the safe return.
Officials from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and other government agencies were present to receive and profile the returnees upon arrival.

The returnees expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for efforts to protect the welfare of Nigerians abroad and facilitate the safe and orderly return of nationals.
They also acknowledged the contributions of NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as well as the Nigerian diplomatic missions in Johannesburg and Pretoria and other agencies involved in the repatriation process.
The latest arrival adds to ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to coordinate the return and reintegration of nationals coming back from South Africa.
