Nigerian-born nurse and social media personality Bemi Orojuogun, widely recognised online as “London Bus Aunty,” has received a notable honour in the United Kingdom after a London bus stop was named in recognition of her.

The development has attracted commendation from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), which described the recognition as a source of pride for Nigerians at home and abroad.

NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated Orojuogun, saying her journey demonstrated how personal passion and cultural identity can create a lasting impression beyond Nigeria.

Orojuogun became widely known through social media content featuring London’s famous red buses. Her videos, which often capture her enthusiasm for the city’s transport network, have gained millions of views and built a substantial online following.

Beyond entertainment, her presence on social media has helped present a positive image of Nigerians living in the United Kingdom. NiDCOM said her recognition highlights the contributions Nigerians continue to make within communities across the diaspora.

Dabiri-Erewa also acknowledged Transport for London (TfL) for recognising Orojuogun’s connection with the city's transport system and celebrating her contribution.

Orojuogun shared news of the honour on Instagram, expressing disbelief and gratitude over the decision.

Reacting to the development, she thanked TfL and its workforce, while also acknowledging the employees who work behind the scenes to keep London's extensive transport network operating.

TfL subsequently responded to her announcement, describing the recognition as an honour.

Orojuogun has spent more than three decades in the United Kingdom. Her unusual but consistent social media focus on London buses has transformed her personal interest into a recognisable online identity, earning her attention across multiple platforms.

The recognition adds another milestone to her story and underscores how distinctive interests, when pursued consistently, can evolve into platforms capable of connecting people and communities.
