Nigerian Man Sentenced to 12 Years in UK for Rape and Sexual Assault

A Nigerian national, Olukanyinsola Odebode, 30, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in the United Kingdom after being convicted of rape and sexual assault involving two women. Odebode received the sentence at Swansea Crown Court after proceedings that examined a series of allegations and offences linked to his conduct over a number of years. The court considered the seriousness of the crimes before imposing the lengthy custodial sentence.
The offences that led to his conviction occurred between June 2024 and September 2025. According to evidence presented to the court, Odebode raped one woman within the Gwent Police area. Following his arrest in connection with the incident, he was released on bail, but later became involved in another sexual offence involving a second woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.
The second incident meant that Odebode faced further criminal proceedings after allegedly continuing the behaviour that had already brought him to the attention of law enforcement. The case involved police investigations across different areas of Wales, with evidence linking the convicted man to separate incidents involving women.
During sentencing, Judge Huw Rees highlighted concerns about the potential danger Odebode could pose to others. The judge described him as presenting a significant risk to members of the public, a finding that reflected the seriousness of the offences and the circumstances surrounding his conduct.
The court also heard that Odebode had previously been the subject of reports concerning inappropriate sexual behaviour. Seven women had reportedly raised concerns about his conduct since 2019, although the offences for which he was ultimately imprisoned related specifically to incidents committed between 2024 and 2025.
The case has drawn attention to the importance of investigations into sexual offences and the role of police authorities in pursuing allegations across different jurisdictions. The involvement of both Gwent Police and Dyfed-Powys Police demonstrates how investigations can extend across police areas when separate incidents involving the same suspect are reported.
With the 12-year sentence now imposed, Odebode will serve a substantial period in custody for the convictions recorded against him.
