NiDCOM and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Collaborate to Strengthen Diaspora Engagement

In a move to enhance Nigeria’s diaspora engagement strategy, Dr. Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a strategic meeting with the management team of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) led by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa in Abuja.

During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed emphasized the importance of diaspora engagement as a cornerstone of the "4Ds" (Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora) under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He lauded NiDCOM's leadership and its efforts in positioning Nigeria’s diaspora on the global stage.

The Ministry expressed a keen interest in participating in NiDCOM's Data Mapping Initiative, which aims to create a comprehensive database of Nigerians living abroad.

"This initiative will enable strategic planning and engagement with the diaspora to maximize their contributions to national development," Dr. Ahmed stated.

He also highlighted the significance of labor migration, urging NiDCOM to focus on sensitizing Nigerians about legal and structured migration pathways for pursuing global opportunities.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in response, thanked the Ministry for its support and outlined NiDCOM’s achievements, including initiatives such as the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Summit, Diaspora Investment Trust Fund, and National Diaspora Day/Merit Awards. She reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to fostering impactful partnerships to harness the diaspora’s potential for Nigeria’s growth.

“Through strategic collaborations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other stakeholders, we will continue to showcase the remarkable contributions of our diaspora community as a vital force for Nigeria’s development,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.

Both institutions pledged to work together to build a more inclusive framework for diaspora engagement aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda to drive national progress.
