The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has announced the arrival of 153 stranded Nigerians repatriated from Chad under the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme coordinated by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Federal Government.
The returnees landed at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2025, aboard an ASKY Airlines flight with registration number CAS-AC.
According to a statement from NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office, the group consisted of 105 adults, 63 males and 42 females, 45 children, and 3 infants. Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric documentation to ensure proper profiling and reintegration into the country.
NEMA disclosed that the returnees received immediate humanitarian support, including food, medical care, ambulance services, and counselling. The agency added that the operation was jointly coordinated with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
The agency reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe and dignified return of citizens stranded abroad, noting that similar operations have brought back thousands of Nigerians from countries such as Libya, Niger, and Sudan.
This development follows a similar exercise last week, when NEMA received 150 returnees from Agadez, Niger Republic, as part of the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return initiative.
