Lebanese Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel called on members of the Lebanese diaspora in Canada to actively engage in the upcoming 2026 parliamentary elections, urging them to register and participate.

Speaking at a gathering hosted by Melkite Catholic Bishop Milad Jawish, Gemayel described Lebanon as entering a pivotal phase, emphasizing the country’s potential to overcome longstanding crises and political challenges.

Addressing a crowd of community leaders, officials, and expatriates, Gemayel highlighted the influence of Hezbollah and Iranian-backed forces, warning that dismantling such networks will take time but is essential for Lebanon’s sovereignty. He stressed that a strong, civil, and just state can only be built on equality and the rule of law, with no group operating above the state.

Gemayel outlined a vision for “a new Lebanon” based on neutrality in regional conflicts, administrative decentralization, and a fair, law-based governance system. He noted that diaspora voter registration remains critically low, with just over 50,000 registered, and urged coordinated efforts to ensure expatriates can meaningfully contribute to Lebanon’s future.

Economic reform was another focus, with Gemayel calling for regulation of Lebanon’s informal economy, which he said undermines fairness and burdens law-abiding citizens. Concerns about education were also raised, with participants highlighting attempts to politicize curricula and the need to safeguard neutrality and equal opportunities for all students.

The gathering reflected a shared belief among attendees that the Lebanese diaspora remains a vital force in shaping the country’s political and economic trajectory, reinforcing the importance of engagement ahead of the elections.
