The Lagos State Ministry of Housing has reaffirmed its dedication to bridging the housing gap by prioritizing the completion of all ongoing projects by 2026. This commitment aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to provide safe, sustainable, and affordable shelters for residents. The Ministry is currently overseeing several construction sites at various stages of development to ensure a steady increase in the state's housing stock.

Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, recently reviewed the progress made in 2025, citing the successful commissioning of the Sunny Ajose and Abraham Adesanya projects. He charged department heads to maintain high standards of quality and planning across all active sites. Key projects targeted for upcoming delivery include Sangotedo Phase II, Egan-Igando Clusters, and Ibeshe Phase II.

The Ministry’s strategy involves extensive collaboration with private developers and financial institutions to ensure project implementation. This partnership model is a core component of the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which seeks to transform Lagos into a more livable megacity. By leveraging external expertise and funding, the state aims to accelerate the delivery of decent homes to its growing population.

Permanent Secretary Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola echoed these sentiments during a New Year prayer session with staff. He emphasized the values of hard work and integrity, urging the team to view their service as a form of devotion to the public. Toriola noted that the Ministry remains fully committed to its mandate of ensuring every Lagosian has access to a secure and affordable place to live.

A significant new focus for the Ministry is the intervention in abandoned buildings across the state. In line with the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) Law, the government intends to facilitate the completion of these properties. This move is expected to not only increase the housing supply but also improve the urban landscape and enhance general public safety by removing potential hideouts for criminal elements.

Through these combined efforts, the Lagos State Government is positioning itself to meet its ambitious 2026 housing goals. By addressing both new construction and stalled developments, the Ministry aims to create a more robust and inclusive real estate market. The focus remains on delivering high-quality infrastructure that serves the long-term needs of the diverse Lagosian population.
