The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Association, has officially flagged off the maiden edition of the 2025 Viksit Bharat Run at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The event was led by the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, and the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, who represented the state government.
According to the organisers, the Viksit Bharat Run aligns with Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to promote healthy living, community participation, and the importance of regular exercise in boosting physical fitness and overall well-being.
Speaking at the flag-off, Fatodu emphasised Lagos State’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance residents’ quality of life. He noted that the run symbolises the cultural and developmental ties between Nigeria and India, while also reflecting shared aspirations for sustainable growth.
“This is to demonstrate the interrelationship that exists between India and Nigeria. We are proud of this initiative, as it resonates with Lagos’ vision of excellence and sustainable development,” Fatodu stated.
Commissioner Ogunlende, on his part, highlighted Lagos’ inclusive approach to community engagement, stressing the importance of partnerships in driving progress. He reaffirmed the state’s readiness to collaborate with diverse groups under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“If you are trying to achieve Vision 2047, you must carry everybody along. In Lagos, we leave no one behind. Collaboration is key, and together we can achieve great things,” Ogunlende said.
The Viksit Bharat Run marks a new chapter in strengthening cultural exchange and fostering unity between Lagos residents and the Indian community in Nigeria.
