Following talks at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Nigeria and the UAE signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This game-changer removes tariffs on 6,243 Nigerian imports to the UAE and 7,315 UAE products coming into Nigeria.

Lagos Electric Boats Set to Launch in 2026



Under the Omi Eko Project, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) is preparing to launch a fleet of 75 electric vessels. These quiet, eco-friendly boats can carry up to 440 passengers each. By utilizing 15 structured routes and 25 upgraded terminals, the state aims to increase water transport's share of daily mobility from 1% to 5%, potentially saving commuters two hours of travel time per day.



Omi Eko Project Appoints Dr. Segun Alabi to Lead €410m Communications Strategy



To manage the public perception of the €410 million Omi Eko initiative, the state has appointed Dr. Segun Alabi, a seasoned communications expert with a PhD from UNILAG. Formerly of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Dr. Alabi’s task is to bridge the gap between government infrastructure goals and the everyday experience of Lagosians, ensuring transparency as the city transitions to electric water transport.

Lagos representatives are championing a "pro-vulnerable" tax shift designed to ease the burden on small businesses and low-income earners. The strategy focuses on efficiency and technology to ensure that wealthy individuals and large corporations contribute their fair share. By narrowing the tax gap and eliminating "nuisance taxes," the government hopes to fund the city's massive 2026 infrastructure projects without hurting the middle class.



Lagos Showcases Music as Economic Engine at AFRIMA 2026



The 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held from January 7–11, transformed Lagos into a massive cultural circuit. With the theme "Unstoppable Africa," the event emphasized that music is now a central actor in Nigeria’s economy. The Africa Music Business Summit (AMBS) highlighted how the industry contributes nearly ₦2 trillion to Nigeria’s GDP, calling for stronger intellectual property laws to ensure artists can fully monetize their global influence.
