Lagos State has taken another step toward environmental sustainability and economic empowerment with the launch of Household Used Cooking Oil Collection Kiosks across the State.

The initiative, spearheaded by Ororo Waste Management in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and supported by the Shell Foundation, was unveiled at LASEPA’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.

Speaking at the launch, LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, described the project as a strategic response to environmental degradation, public health risks, and unemployment, noting Lagos’ potential to unlock a $20 million market in used cooking oil.

The Managing Director of Ororo Waste Management, Mr. Ayo Banjo, explained that the programme converts household waste into economic opportunities, creating dignified income for youths, waste pickers, and micro-entrepreneurs.

The initiative is expected to reduce drainage blockages, flooding, and health risks associated with improper oil disposal, while positioning Lagos as a key contributor to the global biofuel supply chain.
