Lagos Education District I Trains Principals on Transformational Leadership

The Lagos State Government’s Education District I, Agege, has organised a transformative leadership training programme for principals across the district, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening school administration and academic excellence. The capacity-building initiative, held at Girls Senior Secondary School, Iyana-Ipaja, was organised in collaboration with Africa Brands Review and themed “Transformative Principals: Leading 21st Century Schools.”

The training brought together school leaders for an engaging and impactful learning experience focused on modern leadership approaches required to navigate the complexities of contemporary education. The programme emphasised transformational leadership, innovation, accountability, teamwork, and student-centred management as key pillars for improving administrative effectiveness and learning outcomes.
In her remarks, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, expressed appreciation to Africa Brands Review for partnering with the district on the timely initiative. She underscored the critical role of principals as drivers of effective school management and urged them to foster inclusive decision-making processes that carry teachers, non-teaching staff, and students along.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Secondary School and Tertiary Education, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, encouraged principals to model integrity and professionalism. She noted that leadership style significantly influences staff morale, discipline, and overall school performance, stressing that transformational leaders inspire, mentor, and empower their teams while upholding accountability.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Joseph Ayodele, delivered practical sessions on strategic planning, conflict management, emotional intelligence, and adapting to ongoing reforms in the education sector. The training concluded with renewed commitments from participants to raise standards across schools in the district, reinforcing the state’s drive toward educational excellence.
