The Lagos State Government has formally begun its annual festive lighting campaign with the unveiling of the 2025 “Light Up Lagos” illumination project. The ceremony, led by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, marks the start of this year’s efforts to brighten major locations across the state for the holiday season.
Speaking at the launch, the commissioner said the initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance the city’s ambience during the Yuletide period and create an inviting atmosphere for both residents and visitors. She emphasized that festive décor has become a defining aspect of Lagos’ tourism identity, helping the state maintain its reputation as a vibrant cultural hub.
Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka noted that the illumination project does more than decorate the state. According to her, it supports the government’s goal of boosting economic activity by attracting holidaymakers, stimulating nightlife, and encouraging spending in hospitality, entertainment, and retail sectors.
This year’s edition is powered by Nigerian Breweries Plc, a long-standing partner of the state on seasonal beautification. The company’s involvement includes funding, design support, and technical contributions toward setting up decorative lights and branded installations across selected routes.
Representatives of Nigerian Breweries present at the event described the partnership as part of the company’s commitment to community development. They added that contributing to Lagos’ festive atmosphere aligns with their corporate mission of promoting shared experiences and public engagement.
The lighting installations for 2025 will feature upgraded designs, extended coverage, and energy-efficient technology, ensuring that key roads, parks, and tourist zones remain illuminated throughout the celebrations. The commissioner mentioned that the improvements will enhance safety and visibility, especially during night-time events.
Residents have been encouraged to take advantage of the festive scenery by exploring designated hotspots, participating in scheduled end-of-year activities, and supporting local creatives who benefit from increased visitor traffic during this period.
The government expressed optimism that the 2025 festive illumination will strengthen Lagos’ position as a leading holiday destination in West Africa and foster a sense of unity as families and communities gather to celebrate the season.
