Auditors employed by the Lagos State Government have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, and effective public sector management through collaboration and innovation. This resolution emerged from the 18th Internal Auditors’ Retreat, which concluded at Jubilee Chalet, Epe, Lagos State.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Internal Audit, Dr. Oyeyemi Ayoola, FCA, described internal auditors as key drivers of sustainable governance and effective risk management. She noted that their role is critical to the successful implementation of the State’s 2026 Budget and the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
Dr. Ayoola urged auditors to expand their focus beyond routine expenditure reviews to include revenue assurance, advisory services, and proactive risk mitigation. She emphasised that Lagos State’s economic standing as the fifth-largest economy in Africa places greater responsibility on internal auditors to safeguard public resources.
She further assured participants of institutional support, disclosing that the State Government would prioritise competency-based training to build a highly skilled and value-driven audit workforce. According to her, the quality of audit work directly affects the credibility of the State’s financial reporting.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Internal Audit, Mrs. Monsurat Titilope Alaka, stressed the importance of unity, continuous professional development, and innovation in transforming internal audit into a strategic function that supports informed decision-making across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
