The Iranian government has assured that Nigerians living in the country are safe despite the growing military tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Iran’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, gave the reassurance during a briefing in Abuja on Saturday, noting that no Nigerian citizen in Iran has been reported injured or killed since the conflict escalated.
According to the ambassador, Nigerian nationals reside in different parts of the country, including the capital city of Tehran and the religious centre of Qom. He explained that authorities have not received any reports indicating that any of them have been affected by the ongoing hostilities.
Mahdavi Raja emphasised that the Iranian government remains committed to ensuring the safety of foreign nationals and residents as tensions continue to rise in the region.
He added that measures have been put in place to protect civilians and international residents, stressing that the country’s military actions are focused on strategic targets and not on civilian areas.
The envoy also highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Iran, noting that both nations have maintained strong bilateral ties for more than five decades.
His remarks come amid growing concerns following reports of explosions and military activity in parts of Tehran, including areas around Mehrabad International Airport, after airstrikes reportedly targeted several sites in the Iranian capital.
