Singh made the remark during a visit to the Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse, Abuja, in commemoration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child. The event, organised in partnership with several Indian companies operating in Nigeria and supported by the Indian High Commission, brought together more than 2,000 students.

During the visit, Singh distributed educational materials and other gift items to the girls, urging them to pursue education with determination and confidence. He highlighted India’s experience in promoting women’s leadership, citing government initiatives such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao—a national programme meaning “Save the girl child, educate the girl child.”

“It’s an absolute honour to be here. You are the future, and by investing in your education, we invest in a better tomorrow,” Singh said.

He also underscored the deep diplomatic and economic relations between India and Nigeria, noting that India established its diplomatic office in Lagos even before Nigeria’s independence in 1960. Singh added that over 50,000 people of Indian origin live and work in Nigeria, with more than 200 Indian-owned businesses contributing to the local economy.
