The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, a U.S.-based organization formed by Nigerians in the diaspora, has sent an open letter to President Donald Trump urging urgent military, diplomatic, and humanitarian action to address escalating insecurity in Nigeria.
In the letter, the coalition emphasized that swift international engagement could complement domestic efforts, particularly in regions where attacks have intensified and local responses have been deemed inadequate. The group framed the appeal as both a moral and strategic imperative.
The diaspora organization requested specific measures in the letter, including targeted sanctions against individuals allegedly supporting violent groups, close collaboration between U.S. and Nigerian security agencies, and direct humanitarian assistance for displaced and affected populations.
The coalition highlighted past U.S. interventions in Africa, noting that precision operations have successfully neutralized threats without undermining local sovereignty, demonstrating that foreign involvement can protect citizens while respecting national authority.
Representatives stressed that Nigerians abroad are deeply committed to the safety and welfare of communities back home, explaining that the open letter reflects both advocacy and solidarity with those directly impacted by violence.
Analysts say the initiative illustrates a growing trend of diaspora communities leveraging international networks to influence foreign policy and drive attention to domestic crises. Such actions underscore the strategic role of Nigerians abroad in security and humanitarian matters.
While the Nigerian government has not formally responded to the coalition’s appeal, the letter reiterates the urgency of external intervention to prevent further casualties and displacement, warning that delay could exacerbate the crisis.
The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria has pledged to maintain ongoing monitoring of the situation and issue regular updates to U.S. authorities and the global community, ensuring that Nigeria’s security challenges remain a top priority for international action.
