The Diaspora Affairs Office at the Presidency has responded to social media reports suggesting that some visiting African American tourists were approached by individuals posing as police officers.
In a statement, the office noted that such reports could create unnecessary fear among visitors, particularly those travelling from the diaspora during the festive season. It assured the public that all concerns regarding traveller safety are treated with urgency.
Authorities confirmed that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority, has launched a full investigation to verify the claims and identify any parties involved.
The statement highlighted that thousands of visitors arrive in Ghana during this period, and each traveller deserves to feel safe and respected.
Reaffirming Ghana’s reputation as a peaceful and welcoming country, the Diaspora Affairs Office said all security and intelligence agencies are working together to maintain a secure environment for visitors exploring Ghana’s rich culture, heritage, and natural beauty.
The update was issued by Kofi Okyere Darko, Director of the Diaspora Affairs Office.
