Ghana’s Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Percival Segbefia, has called on Africans in the diaspora to strengthen unity, reconnect with their roots, and actively tap into the economic and social opportunities available in Ghana.

He said stronger engagement with the diaspora was essential to reinforcing shared identity, deepening appreciation of African heritage, and mobilising skills, influence, and resources abroad to drive national and continental development.

Mr Segbefia made the call in Accra at a dinner hosted by the Ghana Tourism Authority as part of the ongoing “December in Ghana” celebrations, which brought together diaspora visitors, government officials, and key stakeholders in tourism and culture.

According to him, such interactions help Africans at home and abroad better understand their shared responsibility and the practical meaning of African unity, stressing that collaboration is critical to sustainable development.

Highlighting Ghana’s long-standing ties with the diaspora, he referenced his own family connections to the Caribbean as evidence of the historic bonds linking Africa and its global descendants.

The Chief of Staff noted that many Africans in the diaspora occupy influential positions worldwide, yet their expertise and networks remain underutilised, urging them to return, invest, and play active roles in national development.

Welcoming guests, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, described the event as more than a formal dinner, calling it a moment of homecoming that reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to cultural diplomacy, heritage tourism, and stronger diaspora partnerships.
