The Federal Government has introduced the Nigerian Postal Service Automated Payment Solution, a new digital platform designed to simplify customs payment and parcel clearance for international deliveries.

Unveiled in Abuja on Thursday, the initiative aims to eliminate delays, long queues, and hidden charges associated with inbound postal items. The platform was launched under the supervision of the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Rafiu Adeladan.

Tijani described the system as a “modern model of public service” built through collaboration between government and private innovators. He commended partners Paystack, Sendbox, and Messenger for supporting the automation process, which integrates payment, parcel tracking, and last-mile logistics in one ecosystem.

“This partnership demonstrates how public institutions can co-create solutions with the private sector to improve citizens’ experience and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy,” he said.

Postmaster General of the Federation, Ms. Tola Odeyemi, noted that the solution marks a “new era” for NIPOST, enabling customers to receive instant customs duty notifications, make payments online, and track delivery in real time.

She added that the automated platform will ensure real-time revenue remittance to government accounts, ending the previous manual monthly process.

Paystack CEO, Shola Akinlade, lauded the collaboration as proof that “government projects can move at startup speed,” while Sendbox co-founder, Olusegun Afolahan, said the initiative “restores confidence in Nigeria’s logistics ecosystem.”

NIPOST plans to expand the innovation to cover exports through its forthcoming TradePost Project, a move expected to boost e-commerce and cross-border trade.
