The Ebonyi State Association in Greater Manchester has convened its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM), signaling a significant step in strengthening diaspora engagement and supporting Nigeria’s broader human capital initiatives
The gathering united professionals, students, and community leaders, formalising the Association as a Community Interest Incorporated Company (CIIC) and establishing an official bank account to boost transparency and accountability.
A key highlight was the induction of Ebonyi State Government–sponsored scholarship students studying in the UK. These scholars, part of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s foreign training initiative, will now receive mentorship, welfare support, and guidance while pursuing studies in technology, innovation, and other critical sectors.
Addressing the meeting, the FON Scholars’ President praised the Association for its warm reception and reaffirmed the students’ commitment to discipline, academic excellence, and representing both Ebonyi and Nigeria positively abroad.
The Association’s Secretary emphasized the importance of scholars acting as ambassadors, noting that their conduct carries both national and diplomatic significance.
Association President Ndukwe Ugwuocha commended Governor Nwifuru for his forward-thinking human capital strategy, which he said positions Ebonyi as a state investing in future-ready skills that can drive national innovation.
Beyond governance, the AGM also celebrated the Association’s successful coordination of Ebonyi State’s participation in the 2025 Manchester Igbo Iri Ji Festival, promoting the state’s culture on an international stage.
Ugwuocha concluded by reiterating the Association’s commitment to unity, diaspora engagement, and strengthening Ebonyi’s contribution to Nigeria’s global identity.
