Simon Field, Deputy Head of Mission at the British High Commission, visited world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua in hospital after a serious road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The visit comes as British authorities continue to closely monitor developments surrounding the crash.
During his hospital visit, Field met with Joshua and engaged with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to discuss the situation. Governor Abiodun confirmed that Field’s visit included a briefing on Joshua’s medical condition and ongoing treatment. The governor expressed appreciation for the British High Commission’s proactive involvement and for maintaining close communication with Nigerian authorities.
The envoy’s presence underscores the UK’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad while coordinating with state officials on emergency and medical response. Senior officials, including the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, were also involved in monitoring Joshua’s care.
