Members of the Belgium chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called for deeper involvement of Nigerians in the diaspora in the country’s political development following a stakeholders’ meeting held in Brussels.
The gathering brought together party leaders, members, and supporters to review the chapter’s activities and discuss strategies for strengthening the party’s presence among Nigerians living abroad.
Chairman of APC Belgium, Ambassador Prince G. Folowosele, described the party as a reform-driven movement committed to transforming Nigeria. He noted that although members reside outside the country, they remain closely connected to national politics and can contribute meaningfully to the party’s growth.
Folowosele also reaffirmed the chapter’s support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing ongoing government reforms as necessary steps aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy and governance structures.
He encouraged members of the chapter to remain united and disciplined while working actively to expand the party’s influence within diaspora communities.
The APC Belgium Vice Chairman, Hon. Remi Alowole Olaigbe, also urged members to strengthen cooperation and address internal challenges that could affect the chapter’s development.
Olaigbe further called on the national leadership of the party to establish clear frameworks that would formally recognize and coordinate APC chapters operating outside Nigeria.
According to him, Nigerians abroad continue to play a major role in national development through investments, advocacy, and international engagement. He argued that creating a structured system for diaspora participation would help harness these contributions more effectively.
Among the proposals discussed were the establishment of a dedicated diaspora directorate within the party’s national structure, the creation of clear guidelines for recognizing overseas chapters, and stronger engagement between diaspora members and the party leadership through consultations and policy discussions.
Participants also suggested exploring the possibility of diaspora voting in collaboration with Nigeria’s electoral authorities, while encouraging stronger global promotion of the policies and achievements of the APC-led administration.
The meeting ended with members reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the party’s structures abroad and supporting its political agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
