The seventh edition of the Art of Technology Lagos (AOT Lagos 7.0) on Thursday gathered global technology leaders, policymakers, founders, investors, researchers, innovators, and government representatives at the Landmark Event Centre to explore emerging technologies shaping Lagos’ evolution into Africa’s leading tech hub.

With the theme “Future Technologies & a Sustainable Lagos,” the conference focused on artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure, digital governance, climate tech, and inclusive innovation, reinforcing AOT’s position as the state’s premier policy–innovation platform.
Delivering the keynote address, Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat highlighted the government’s five-year investment in more than 2,500 kilometres of fibre-optic infrastructure, expansion of smart traffic systems, and digital public services, which he said have already enhanced connectivity for over one million residents.
He added that the Lagos State Science, Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) has invested nearly ₦2 billion in over 75 startups across fintech, agritech, healthtech, edtech, construction tech, and climate innovation, while the forthcoming Lagos Innovation Bill aims to strengthen funding, intellectual property protection, and collaboration across sectors.

Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr. Olatunbosun Alake, disclosed that Lagos-based startups attracted more than $6 billion between 2019 and 2024, representing nearly 80 percent of Nigeria’s active startups, further positioning the state as Africa’s fastest-growing technology ecosystem.
“Lagos is your laboratory, your launchpad into Africa and the world. This administration remains committed to the investments and reforms necessary to keep Lagos at the forefront of global innovation,” Dr. Hamzat said.
“Cities generate 80 percent of global GDP while accounting for 75 percent of global carbon emissions. This makes the integration of future technologies not optional but essential for survival,” Dr. Victor Gbenga Afolabi, Founder of Eko Innovation Centre, added.
A major highlight of the conference was the 4th edition of the Tech Ecosystem Awards, honouring pioneers in sustainability, AI, mobility, fintech, journalism, and social innovation. Winners included Ada Nduka Oyom (Women in Tech Award), Odunayo Eweniyi (Technology Personality of the Year), Maxdrive.ai (Sustainable Mobility Award), Chowdeck (Startup of the Year), BudgIT (Social Innovation Award), and CDIAL AI (AI & Robotics Excellence Award), underscoring Lagos’ leadership in driving a vibrant, innovation-led economy.
