Manal Al-Ansi, Esq., the founder of Diaspora District in the United States, has launched a renewed call for the international community to formally acknowledge July 25 as Global Diaspora Day. Her appeal highlights the growing importance of diaspora communities in shaping cultural, social, and economic ties around the world.

Speaking in Lagos, Al-Ansi emphasized that diaspora populations are often powerful bridges between nations, contributing not only through remittances but also through knowledge exchange and civic involvement. She noted that recognizing a global day would encourage deeper collaboration between countries and their citizens abroad.

According to Al-Ansi, millions of people living outside their home countries continue to influence global development, yet their impact is rarely celebrated on a unified platform. Establishing a dedicated day, she argued, would help governments and organizations create programs that acknowledge the contributions of these communities.

Her proposal also aims to draw attention to the challenges faced by diaspora groups, including issues related to identity, integration, and representation. Al-Ansi believes that a global observance would provide an opportunity for dialogue, education, and community-building events that highlight these concerns.

Diaspora District, the organization she founded, has spent years working to strengthen connections between Africans abroad and communities on the continent. Through cultural initiatives, networking events, and advocacy, the group has sought to create spaces where diaspora voices can be amplified.

Al-Ansi’s push for July 25 as Global Diaspora Day has already begun to attract interest from civic groups and international organizations. Many see the proposal as a step toward building stronger ties among nations in an increasingly interconnected world.

She expressed optimism that with continued support from governments, institutions, and diaspora networks, the initiative could gain official recognition.

“The global community thrives when its people are united,” she said, calling on leaders to adopt the observance as a symbol of shared humanity and global cooperation.
