Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Smart Island University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The recognition was presented by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Mohammed Dhaidan Al-Mutairi, who praised Dabiri-Erewa for her unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes and her pioneering role in advancing diaspora affairs. He cited her notable impact in both fields as the reason for the award.
Dr. Al-Mutairi revealed that nearly 90 Nigerian students are currently enrolled at the institution and expressed the university's interest in strengthening academic ties with Nigeria, including plans to establish a campus in the country.

In her response, Dabiri-Erewa expressed gratitude to the university and acknowledged the support of the Association of Nigerians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for promoting Nigeria’s image abroad.
Details for the formal conferment ceremony will be announced later in the year.
