The African Union (AU) has expressed serious concerns regarding the implications of a new travel ban imposed by the United States on seven African countries.

In an official statement released Thursday, the AU Commission warned that the policy could significantly disrupt diplomatic relations, economic cooperation, educational exchange, and interpersonal connections that have developed over decades between the U.S. and African nations.

“The Commission remains concerned about the potential negative impact of such measures on people-to-people ties, educational exchange, commercial engagement, and broader diplomatic relations,” the AU stated.

Although the AU did not name the affected countries in its statement, reports indicate that the U.S. ban includes nations from Central and West Africa.

“This move has sparked criticism across the continent, with diplomats and stakeholders calling for dialogue and reconsideration, warning that the restrictions could erode decades of bilateral progress and mutual trust.
