2027: Diaspora Students Raise N20m for Ekpenyong’s Senatorial Nomination Form

A coalition of Nigerian students studying overseas has contributed N20 million toward securing a senatorial nomination form for Asuquo Ekpenyong ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, operating under the banner of Scholars in Diaspora (SiD), announced the contribution following a meeting held in Coventry, United Kingdom. Details of the initiative were shared in a statement released by Effiong Bassey.
According to the group, members collectively raised N22.1 million through voluntary donations sourced from students across the UK and other countries. From this total, N20 million has been earmarked specifically for the purchase of the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form.
The remaining funds, along with additional contributions still being received, are expected to support educational interventions for disadvantaged children, including school fees and learning materials.
Members of SiD explained that many of them previously benefited from Ekpenyong’s scholarship initiatives, noting that their gesture was both an expression of gratitude and a commitment to sustaining educational development.
The group added that it has maintained a track record of supporting academic causes, particularly for underprivileged students, both within Nigeria and in diaspora communities.
Responding to the development, Ekpenyong described the donation as unexpected and deeply appreciated. He noted that the backing from students was especially meaningful, given his longstanding focus on empowering young people through education.
The senator reaffirmed his dedication to advancing educational opportunities, youth empowerment, and continued representation of Cross River South, pledging to sustain initiatives that directly impact human capital development.
